Swim Patrol
The Canadian Swim Patrol program is the on-ramp to lifeguarding for 8-12-year-olds who are ready to go beyond swim lessons.Swim Patrol has 3 levels – Rookie, Ranger & Star. Content is organized in 3 groups – Water Proficiency, First Aid, and Rescue. Swim Patrol develops swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on Water Smart® behaviour. Skill drills enhance capability in the water, good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. |

Bronze Star |

| Excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. |

Bronze Medallion |

(Duration: 18-20 hrs)
This award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education – judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues involving conscious and unconscious victims. Lifesavers also develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.

Bronze Cross |

(Duration 18-20 hrs)
This award is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification.
Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid certifications (need not be current) and a minimum of 14 years of age. |
