Butterfly is the stroke where both arms swing over the water together, with a wave running through the body. It is usually learned after the other strokes, in short, fun steps, and swimming it is a big, proud achievement.
Your child learns the smooth, rolling wave that powers butterfly, moving through the water like a dolphin. It is the rhythm the whole stroke is built on, and many children find it great fun.
