Hello! My name is Valerie and I’m a transferring junior at UC Berkeley. My interest in lifeguarding and swim lessons arises from being a competitive swimmer since I was 4 years old. This lifelong background of various aquatic facilities, swim techniques, and pool safety makes me a great fit for your pool! I currently hold certifications in Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and also First Aid. With these active certifications, I have had more than two years of experience lifeguarding in a wide range of environments. At both my previous and current lifeguarding jobs, I have received recognition via “Guard of the Week” titles, honors given to me due to multiple rescues and first aid administrations. Although I do not have direct experience with teaching swim lessons, I have observed hundreds of them during my time lifeguarding. Additionally, my 18 years of experience on many different swim teams provides me with a very strong background in swimming basics, techniques, and how swim classes are structured for all ages. I am also great with kids! Growing up with a younger sibling almost a decade younger than me has put me in the built-in babysitter position, which has offered me a good background in childcare and child psychology.
