From jumping in to climbing out
Your child puts the survival skills together without stopping: into deep water, up, settled, turned, swimming to the edge and climbing out. Doing it all in one go shows real readiness, not just single skills.

Your child rolls into deep water, treads water for one minute and then swims 50 metres. It is the biggest goal in water survival, and a strong base for safer swimming.

Your child learns to notice when they are getting tired, and to stop and head for the side before it becomes a problem. Knowing when to stop is as important as knowing how to swim.
Before getting in, your child learns to point out the way out, and a second one just in case. Knowing where to head makes tired or worried moments much calmer.
Your child learns what makes lakes, rivers and the sea different from a pool: cold water, moving water and water you can't see through. They also learn to change the plan, or stay out, when conditions change.
Your child learns to stop the moment they see or hear a clear signal, and to go straight to a safe spot. It means an instructor, lifeguard or parent can keep them out of harm's way in an instant.
Before any dive, your child learns to check that the water is deep enough and that diving is allowed. If they can't be sure of both, they go in feet first.
