Lifeguards in Ottawa

I am a dedicated and experienced lifeguard with over 2.5 years of experience working for the City, ensuring the safety and well-being of patrons in aquatic environments. In addition to lifeguarding, I have extensive experience teaching swim lessons to individuals of all ages, from infants and young children to adults. I have also worked closely with children with special needs, adapting lessons to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. I am passionate about water safety, enjoy helping swimmers build confidence and skills, and take pride in maintaining a positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude.

I have been involved in competitive swimming for 11 years and have spent the last 3 years coaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. For the past 4 years, I have also worked as a lifeguard, giving me extensive experience in water safety, supervision, and helping swimmers build confidence in the water. I hold my National Lifeguard (NL), Standard First Aid with CPR-C, and Swimming 101 certifications, and I am certified to teach children and adults. Throughout my swimming career, I competed with Pickering Swim Club, where I developed strong technique across all four competitive strokes. I particularly enjoy helping swimmers improve their freestyle and backstroke while building efficient technique, endurance, and confidence. As a coach, I focus on creating a positive, patient, and encouraging learning environment that helps swimmers progress at their own pace. My experience coaching competitive swimmers, combined with my background as a camp counsellor, has strengthened my communication, leadership, and teaching skills, allowing me to connect with children and make lessons both safe and enjoyable.

Hi, I’m Desmond. I’ve been lifeguarding for the past three years and have my National Lifeguard, First Aid with CPR-C, and Swim Instructor certifications. I tend to work best with swimmers who are already comfortable in the water, usually ages 6 and up. I’d describe myself as patient and easygoing, and I like keeping lessons relaxed but still productive. Outside of swimming, I play and coach volleyball so I’m good at giving clear feedback and keeping people engaged. A fun fact about me is that I’ll be moving to Halifax soon for school and to get more into watersports.
