What this water confidence skill is
A skill learned in one pool does not always travel. A new pool can have different depths, steps, temperature, noise, lifeguards and rules. For many children, all that newness makes a familiar skill suddenly feel hard.
This skill bridges that gap. First your child repeats a skill they know in a different, supervised pool, with a reminder from their instructor. Then they do it on their own, following that pool's rules. It builds on following instructions, and leads to trying again after a setback.
Why it matters
Swimming that travels.
Your child can enjoy holiday, school and community pools, not just the one they learned in.
Safer in new places.
Knowing to check the depth and follow the rules keeps your child safer anywhere.
Confidence with change.
Handling a new pool calmly builds confidence well beyond swimming.
A gentle start.
Children who find change hard often do best with a planned, step by step introduction to new places.
Who it is for
Children, teens and adults who are comfortable with a skill in their usual pool. Children often need the most support with a new pool's size, noise and rules. Children who find change hard, including many with additional needs, benefit from a planned, gradual introduction. If you are learning as an adult, a public pool can feel daunting after private lessons, and this skill helps with that too.
