BIO

I have nearly two decades of experience in Aquatics including employment with the YMCA, YWCA, Rice University, Westminster School, Agnes Scott College, and the Hartselle City Pool dating back to 1996. I have conservatively estimated that I have instructed over 1,000 people in swimming since that time ranging in age from 6 months to 76 years. I take safety around the water very seriously as I had a stepbrother who drowned several years ago and focus my instruction on safety first.

Credentials

I have held swim instruction certifications from the YWCA and YMCA as well as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard certifications from the American Red Cross. My First Aid CPR AED certification is current through 7/30/2016 through the American Heart Association.

Specialties

I have substantial experience teaching private swim lessons to special needs children (deaf, autism spectrum, ADHD) as well as adults ranging in skill from beginners with fear of the water all the way through stroke improvement techniques with triathletes. I was a competitive swimmer and diver for many years and specialized in butterfly, breaststroke, and IM and have experience coaching and teaching advanced swim techniques. I have also worked with adult women wearing FINA approved swim attire and limited English skills. In aqua aerobics I’ve taught a wide age and skill range as well as designed and developed my own course.
