If you have students on different skill levels you can let your swim instructor know. Your instructor will come to you on the first day of lessons with a game plan that approaches both skills levels.

After the swim instructor has had a chance to assess the skill-sets of the students, they can give you a more in depth evaluation on the next steps they suggest moving forward.
