Parent & Tot
It's important to keep parent & tot classes fun through the use of songs and games. Songs, games and lesson plan ideas are included below.Parent and Tot Lesson Plans
Sample (30 Minutes) To Start: Take a couple of minutes to get acclimatized - encourage parents to practice things they've learned in previous weeks. Song and Games are a great way to teach Parent and Tot lessons while having fun! Incorporate the following songs and swim movements throughout the lesson. Full lyrics and additional songs are included on the next page. Here We Are Together
Go around and say kids' names and parents' names.
Wheels on the Bus Practice Front and Back Blast OffsHumpty Dumpty
Practice plop jumping into the pool.
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Have the kids lie on their backs doing floats with head on mom's shoulder.
ABC's
Have two moms take turns holding a noodle - kids go "under the rainbow" while singing ABC, then have mom switch up - do on both back and front to practice kicking.
Under the Rainbow Swim
Hold infant facing mom with two other moms holding the noodle in a rainbow shape. Count 1, 2, 3, then pick the child up slightly, and submerges them, front glide style, towards mom. If mom feels uncomfortable with doing the underwater thing, can do it on top of water.
Hokey Pokey
Can make it the "fishy wishy" one fin in, one tail in, one mouth in, whole fish in, etc.
Beach Ball Play
Blow up large beach ball and have infants lie on mom's shoulders. Mom assists in baby "kicking" the ball across the circle - the bigger the ball the better - obviously works best when there's no wind.
Itsy Bitsy Spider
Do moves with the song, then use 'Big Fat Spider' with bigger, more exaggerated moves, then do 'Insy Winsy Spider' with very small moves.
