Beautiful Beaches #1: Barnes Bay, Anguilla

Beautiful Beaches - Barnes Bay Beach, Anguilla

On the northern tip of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean is the British territory of Anguilla. The marquee beach of Barnes Bay is peaceful and quiet unlike the ones on other nearby islands. Because of its remote location, you will only see a few other people visiting at the same time as you. A romantic spot to watch the sunset is the patio of Mango’s restaurant.

The beach has the Four Seasons resort at the end of Barnes Bay. However, most guests spend the day at the beachside on the Meads Bayside. The Four Seasons resort occupies a bit less than half of Barnes Bay.

The Barnes Bay side of the resort is home to luxurious beachfront villas and a restaurant called the Half Shell.

The end of the beach is a bit rocky but is covered in golden sand making it good for a nice walk.

Beautiful Beaches #2: Puka Shell Beach, Boracay, Philippines

Beautiful Beaches - Puka Shell Beach, Boracay, Philippines

Boracay has beaches that are renowned around the world. They have received awards from a variety of travel magazines. However, this one is probably the best around because the sand glistens in the sun and the water is clear and free of pollution.

Puka Shell Beach is the second most popular beach on the island after White Beach. Spanning 800 metres, being less known is part of this beach’s charm. Escape the crowds by choosing Puka Shell Beach which is more secluded than its counterparts.

There are no hotels that sit directly on the beach. Immerse yourself in the local culture by sampling some local Filipino cuisine.

The name of this beach can be taken quite literally. There is a variety of Puka Shells that lay underneath the sand, which will feel soft as it crunches between your toes.

Always proceed with caution like you would at any other beach. The water can get rough, which causes strong currents. Only swim at these times if you are an experienced swimmer and do not leave your children unsupervised.

Beautiful Beaches #3: Matira Beach, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Beautiful Beaches - Matira Beach, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Matira is the most popular beach on the island of Bora Bora. It is the only public beach on the main island worth visiting. This beach has soft white sands and is surrounded by lush green hills that touch the clouds. The western-facing beach has a sunset that comes right out of a fantasy. So stick around as it gets darker out to take in nature’s beauty.

The nearby barrier reef is a sight to take in. Bring your snorkelling gear along! If you are travelling with family, the calm waters are safe for kids to swim in too.

If you need some rest, catch a ride across the lagoon to the Intercontinental Resort and Thalasso Spa. There is the opportunity to stay right on the beach at Hotel Matira. While the Intercontinental Le Moana is on the other side of Point Matira.

Beautiful Beaches # 4: Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

Beautiful Beaches - Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

One of the best places on the planet for surfing in Hawaii. Remember if you are looking to ride the waves, it’s best to come in the wintertime. Some of the waves can reach heights as high as twenty-five feet! It’s no wonder professional surfers flock here. It’s no wonder Sunset Beach hosts events like Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Wintertime is not the best for less experienced swimmers though. The Sunset Rip is a dangerous rip current offshore. Watch out for the stinging limu between June and September, which is a not-so-nice type of seaweed.

Summertime is when this beach becomes a snorkeler’s paradise. The water is flat and there are even a few tide pools to explore! Sunset Beach is popular with and is a local favourite. Most claim it’s the “world’s most beautiful beach.” Who can blame them with a sunset like that? This island has one of the best sunsets in the world. This beach stays true to its namesake!

Beautiful Beaches # 5: El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Beautiful Beaches - El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Beautiful beaches like this are ones that you only see in your dreams. Wake up because this one is real! Lined by tree-covered limestone cliffs and an intricate underwater world, El Nido is one of the best clear blue water beaches around. Not only does this beach give you access to coral reefs, but you can also see an extraordinary ecosystem up close. The waters are home to several species of tropical fish and five species of endangered sea turtles. Plus there are over 100 different types of birds in the trees.

Getting here requires a 7-hour bus ride. The wait is well worth it to discover the many sea caves by snorkel or Bangka boat. Hop from island to island to explore one of nature’s many wonders. A zipline is available to get from one island to another too. This little “flight” is an astounding way to take in the sunset.

The secluded town of El Nido used to be ignored by tourists. It became a go-to destination in the 1980s. The beautiful beach and going island hopping through the stunning Palawan region are just a few of the draws!
