Travel with kids can be extremely fun, but also challenging! What do you bring, what do you leave home? Here are some tips for traveling with kids and the ultimate packing list!

Check out the weather before travel

Before the packing begins, find out the weather for your vacation spot! Are you going to a tropical location that is very hot? Does it rain a lot? Are you going somewhere cold? Knowing the climate before you travel with kids is extremely important, as is checking the weather forecast beforehand. You don’t want to be caught in the rain without an umbrella!

Family trip essentials

Once you know the weather forecast, you’ll have a better idea of what to bring.

For wet locations, make sure you don’t forget raincoats, boots, umbrellas, hats, and extra socks! It also doesn’t hurt to bring plastic toys for playing in the rain, that way you can easily dry them off when playtime is over. If your kids don’t like being outside in the rain, make sure you have options for indoor play! Coloring sheets, dolls, books and movies are all great ideas for travel with kids. Leave the markers at home- they can cause more mess than they’re worth!

For hot locations, bring swimsuits (more than one!), sandals, hats, sunscreen, and plenty of beach toys! Buckets and pails are perfect for sandcastle-making. Don’t forget to use plastic toys to avoid tracking sand into your hotel room. Pool toys are also a great addition to any family packing list- floaties, life jackets, noodles and diving toys are all excellent options. Ensure you have plenty of water to keep hydrated.

For cold and snowy locations, bring warm coats, sweaters, socks, boots, hats, mittens, and scarves. Don’t forget a top hat for Frosty when you build snowmen! Also, cold weather can easily dry out skin, so it would be useful to add moisturizing lotions to your family packing list. Bring hot chocolate (don’t forget the marshmallows!) for a warm treat after playtime!

If you’re going to an amusement park, don’t forget lots of water and snacks. Kids will burn up all their energy running around in excitement, so don’t forget nourishment! Also, packing a small first aid kit is a crucial part of any ultimate packing list. Safety first!

Road trip essentials

If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the car, make sure you bring activities! Dolls, stuffed animals (don’t forget their favourite!) and coloring activities are all family trip essentials. If you have a tablet or a portable DVD player, bring movies! Watching shows and movies take up at least an hour or two of the trip. It’s also useful to have pillows and blankets to encourage sleeping in the car. Don’t forget drinks and snacks- avoid overpriced roadside food!

Final tips for traveling with kids

The most important things to remember for travel with kids is entertainment and safety. Toys, books, movies, and dolls are a main part of any family packing list. Water and snacks are key items to include to ensure kids are feeling strong and ready for play. Don’t forget a first aid kit and a life jacket for the pool and beach. Most of all – HAVE FUN!
